As you know, we recently adopted a puppy named Baylee. Around the same time, I was sent ASPCA kids: Rescue Readers books to review from Moms Meet – talk about perfect timing!!

Studio Fun International partnered with the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to publish a children’s book series called ASPCA kids: Rescue Readers. Each book is inspired by a real-life animal rescue story from the pet’s point of view. Each book also includes facts and pictures of the actual pet that inspired the story.

I love that these stories were based on real animals and thought that really helped kids connect with the animal and why adopting is so important. It opens up the opportunity to discuss with your child that there are so many animals that need homes, why rescuing an animal is important, and how to be a responsible pet owner.

These books are great for beginning readers and are fun and educational at the same time. They stress the importance of care, protection, and love of all animals. Having young children it’s important for them to know how to respect not only people, but animals too.

We always had pets growing up – dogs, cats, fish, lizards, hamsters. And now I am happy that I can share the joy that comes from having a pet with my children. And not only do I share my love of animals with them but I can also share my love of reading.

I grew up reading books all the time (and I still do!), and I am lucky that both my kids love to read. I always encourage reading whether it’s a beginning reading book, a chapter book, the comics, or even the sports section. I am a firm believer in reading what you love, whatever that may be.

The ASPCA books are a great way to encourage your child to read while helping them learn. And it’s a great opportunity to read together with your child. Danny and I read a story together with Jaden every night before bed. Jacob is a teenager so he prefers to read alone. :)

I  love that 4-5% of the purchase price of every book goes directly to the ASPCA to help continue its mission. These books are available in paperback, library binding hardcovers, and e-books. The paperback books are priced $3.99 each of $15.99 for all four everywhere books are sold.

Even our puppy, Baylee, joined in on the reading fun!
